Line Brew remains a firm favourite with both locals and ex-pats. Always busy, it is an excellent place for a hearty meal. The house speciality is a large horse steak, said by locals to provide beautifully lean yet tender meat, but for the less culinary adventurous there are plenty of other steaks and grilled meat to keep your iron levels high. Try the shashliks, they are particularly good here. Line Brew's popularity gives it the buzzing atmosphere that many restaurants in Almaty sadly lack. In winter, a warm fire burns inside, and in summer the roof transforms into a terrace designed like a ship. They also make their own beer, but if you don't fancy trying something home-brewed then a range of Belgian brews await your custom.
